SupplyRI helps connect local suppliers to the needs of larger Rhode Island institutions, our Anchors, through our database, website, trainings, and events.
PROVIDENCE, RI – The Rhode Island Commerce Corporation has announced a partnership between the agency’s SupplyRI initiative and Mayflower Wind, the developer of an offshore wind energy project far off the coast of Massachusetts. SupplyRI is an innovative public-private initiative funded in large part by the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation, with the support of the Heron Foundation and the Rhode Island Foundation, that helps connect local suppliers to the needs of larger Rhode Island institutions.
“As the offshore wind industry continues its rapid growth, Rhode Island remains well positioned to participate in the growth of this exciting clean energy industry,” said Hilary Fagan, President & COO, Rhode Island Commerce Corporation. “Our partnership with Mayflower Wind will help RI companies and our workforce take advantage of the many opportunities the offshore wind sector presents while increasing the resilience of our state’s economy”.
In a signed a Memorandum of Understanding Mayflower has committed to participating as a Supply RI Anchor by supporting local businesses in Rhode Island through efficiently procuring Rhode Island-sourced goods and services for their offshore wind energy project.
Other Anchors include some of the state’s largest employers such as CVS Health, Care New England, Brown University, Orsted, and Citizens Bank. SupplyRI is designed to streamline the supply chain and connect local suppliers to Anchors such as Mayflower Wind, via their robust supply chain database, training initiatives, and networking events.
“We are looking forward to tapping into Rhode Island’s national leadership in the offshore wind and Blue Economy sectors to support our projects,” said William Cotta, Supply Chain Manager, Mayflower Wind Energy LLC. “With the assistance of SupplyRI we will be able to utilize their network of local businesses and strong connections to the minority- and women-owned businesses in the state to efficiently build out our supply chain and provide job opportunities for the people of Rhode Island.”
The SupplyRI team also helps local RI businesses to better understand the processes and needs for the offshore wind supply chain across the development, construction, and operations phases of a project’s lifecycle.
